Pre-NCT inspection in Ireland
A pre-NCT check finds the faults most likely to fail your car's NCT so you can fix them before test day — usually cheaper and quicker than failing and coming back for a re-test.
What's checked
Lights and electrics; brakes and handbrake; tyres and wheel condition; steering and suspension; the windscreen, wipers and washers; exhaust and emissions; seatbelts and body condition. The garage gives you a list of anything likely to fail, so you can fix it first.
Pre-NCT — questions
What is a pre-NCT inspection?
A garage check of the items the NCT tests — lights, brakes, tyres, suspension, emissions and more — so you can fix likely failures before your test and avoid a re-test.
What are the most common NCT failures?
Lighting and electrical faults, worn tyres, brake issues, suspension wear and windscreen or wiper problems. Many are inexpensive to fix if caught early.
Is it worth it?
If your car is older or you're unsure of its condition, yes — fixing a known fault beforehand is usually cheaper and less hassle than failing and returning.
